Dominican Republic: Day 6

February 2013 - Dominican Republic - Day 6

This morning we traveled to a sugar cane village called El Penon.  Chris and Russell stayed behind.  Russell is fine, but has had a bout with some "intestine" issues, as we call them.  Chris had his conference call with UPS, and that went well too.

The sugar cane village was very reminiscent of what you would see in most of Nicaragua.  We had about 60 children and some adults join us and there were some older boys practicing baseball at the field.  These children attend school, but in the afternoon. typically in the poorer communities, school is split, although we usually see the younger students go in the morning, older in the afternoon, it seemed to be opposite here.  We went through the village, calling vamanos al playa - we go to play.  We had a softball game with the boys and played volleyball/ball with the girls.  David, Luke, Mason, and a few others did the skit of the Good Samaritan.  Asa shared his testimony and Eric followed up with a presentation in Spanish.  We prayed with them and headed back to Score.

We had lunch, chicken nuggets and fries and many of us were commenting we wished for some Chick-fil-A sauce :).  Following lunch we had our Bible study and read from Galatians, Ephesians, and Colossians about taking off the old man and putting on the new man.

David, Luke, and Mason were challenged end by Kiko, Gio, and Filipa to 3 on 3 Gio was one of the top professional players in the Dominican... We warned them, and they did lose....but I think they had fun.

This afternoon was our free day and they enjoyed the pool and the beach, and of course, are pink again.  I heard Russell was up watching some sports while we were gone. The weather was beautiful and the beach was perfect.  Of course, we did eat some more pizza!

We had Score night tonight, Russell was with us and feeling much better!  We have a really big day tomorrow.  Everyone is doing fine.  Thank you for your continued prayers!
