We are finishing up our last full day in Ambler. This trip has been everything we have prayed for and more. We have shared the gospel with Eskimos, prayed for healing for the sick, really engaged in the community and had a lot of fun along the way.
We spent all day yesterday around the Kobuk 440 dogsled race. It was a beautiful day. The sun was out, and it was about -25 degrees with wind chill. Teams started coming in about 9:00 in the morning and some of us stayed out until about 2:00 the next morning. It was a lot of fun seeing the mushers come in and out of Ambler and interacting with the people of Ambler.
As the race was winding down for the evening we made a fire and all the Eskimo kids came out for S'mores. It was a really fun time for everyone. We love the kids here. They are so much fun and it is just nice to be able to care for them and minister to them in this way.
A couple of us stayed up very late in search of the northern lights. They were successful. It is an awesome display of God's artistic creation. We were thankful for the blessing of experiencing it.
Today we got to see a few of the remaining mushers come in and out. We were able to take the snowmobile out at different times to get out of the village and enjoy nature. We played with the kids a lot more, and we all enjoyed the Arctic's best $17 frozen hamburger at the Kobuk River Lodge. Glenda made us amazing caribou chili tonight for dinner. We all ate until we couldn't eat any more.
Tomorrow we have a few church services to attend and lead and then we fly back to Anchorage. Please pray for each of those services that God would be lifted up and honored. Pray for Matt as he brings us God's word in the Baptist church, and Ryan Hooks as he shares about the importance of baptism in the Friends church. Please also pray for clear weather and connecting flights.
Thank you for your prayers over our time in Amber. They were honored and we are so very grateful.
Your Arctic Team,
Ryan, Brian, Matt, Andrew, Ronnie, Ryan and Wade
