Let the games begin!
Today we took the field for a doubleheader against a local school team. When we arrived at the field there were over 30 players of various ages, skills, and sizes that watched us enter the field and get setup.
Our game was delayed for 15 minutes while a few local guys pitched for a scout from the Yankees. The kids were wide-eyed as the pitchers threw 90+ miles per hour while a scout and agent studied them from behind a radar gun.
The baseball results were great. We won both games (14-5 and 4-0) and coach Joe did a good job rotating in all the boys.
But the ministry results were even greater. Luke Boynton and Lawton were chosen to give their testimony based on their game performance. They did great in front of a large crowd and 3 DR boys decided to follow Christ for the first time! One boy, Javier, was the catcher for the team. Please pray for his Christian growth.
After a quick lunch, we headed to a nearby village to play with kids. When our bus pulled onto the dirt street, excited kids started coming out of their homes and running alongside us. When we finally stopped, we had accumulated over 50 kids outside our door. Our boys felt like rock stars getting off the bus and were mobbed.
After playing with them for an hour, we gathered the villagers together and Will and Seth shared their testimonies with over 100 people!
Our devotional tonight focused on being still and recognizing the little opportunities that God is providing us. We asked the kids to brag on each other for little things they noticed their teammates doing today. They were able to come up with so many examples that we finally had to cut them off. They continue to bond as friends and are creating amazing memories.
So our first day of baseball ministry was a success. 5 wins: 2 on the field and 3 more people joining us in heaven!
Tomorrow we will play a morning game and then visit another village to play with our entourage...
