South Asia: The Light of the Gospel

We have just finished our first set of Foundations training at four different locations. We worked with a wide range of believers, from new Christians to church leaders and trained over 80 believers. Three teams witnessed baptisms of new believers, and we even had a practicing Muslim in one group who wanted to know more about Jesus!

This is the last of six Foundations trainings these groups will receive. The ones who have attended all six sessions now know thirty bible stories ranging from Genesis to Revelation. They have received instruction on how to read, learn from, and obey scripture.

If there is a common thread we have seen across the different teams, it’s one about us, not them. They make us feel totally inadequate when they introduce each other as they always mention who led them, or who they led to Christ. Several times there were three generations of Christians in one room, and that’s not enough for them. They credit our training with giving them the confidence to share the gospel. We know it’s different, we just took a ride (a long one) on a plane. The real work is being accomplished by God with assistance from the wonderful believers here.

We wish you could see the sweet spirit they have here. Even more we wish you could see what real church and real Christian community looks like. But most of all, we wish you could see the mighty work God is doing across this region, and soon, this nation. Satan is strong here, he and his have been entrenched here for centuries. We walked around a temple today and our host warned us not to go inside because we did not want to experience the darkness there. But we know God has already won the victory. He is conquering the battle to darkness, right here and right now.

"For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shown in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." - 2 Corinthians 4:5-6
