"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
As we traveled on the muddy road to the Masai church we prayed that we would not get stuck! The rain had started during the middle of the night and stopped just after daybreak, but the ground was saturated and the roads were nearly impassable. Our focus today was on visiting with the women in the land of the Masai to teach them the word of God.
Our travel was difficult. Due to traffic jams and the state of the roads we were two hours later than we had planned. We arrived at the village and expected to be greeted by women who had been waiting several hours for us to arrive. However due to the weather many of the ladies were also running behind. All of the women were walking on foot from their villages and some traveled as far as 7 miles to come and listen to us speak.
While waiting on the ladies to arrive we had a a few moments to spend with the Pastor. We had a short lesson in how food is prepared in the Masai culture. The women are not allowed to butcher the animals, only the men, which they were in the final stages of with a goat. We survived this lesson without any fainting!
It was soon time to worship and for the women's conference. We did not understand the words that were being sung, but the joy and praise of these women worshipping the Lord was some of the sweetest sounds we have ever heard. They were attentive and we could see they loved learning about the topics we shared. Barb spoke on honoring God and Ashlee spoke about God's love and examples of godly women in the Bible. Several team members also had the chance to share their testimony.
As we were finishing up the conference we heard thunder in the distance. By the time we were done the rain was pouring down and we had to hurry to get on the road. Through prayer and an amazing driver we made it back to Nairobi! Praise God for the opportunity he gave us today to worship with these beautiful women and make disciples halfway around the world!
