We arrived late yesterday afternoon at First Love Children's Home. Many of the children here were rescued from the Kibera slum and now live with 97 children in this oasis. Last night we spent a little time with them before dinner and settling into our rooms in the visitor's suite in one of the dorms.
This morning was a time of Bible teaching and fun with the children. They were taught from Ephesians 6:14-17 about the Armor of God. Claire, Debbie A., Debbie T. and Nancy all shared about the different parts of the Armor. The children had a chance to learn a new song about the Armor of God and to make a craft to remind them of what they learned. They are excellent listeners and learners!
After lunch Barbara led a small group of girls in making a bracelet. The bracelet is also the story of the gospel called "The Message in Beads". The older girls listened attentively as Barbara shared her lesson and helped them create a beautiful piece of jewelry.
Later in the afternoon we had the chance to ride out to a new home being built that will house university students. The foundation is laid and the walls are in the process of being constructed. This will give children that are transitioning out of First Love a safe place to live and be nurtured.
The children ended the evening with a special performance for us and the other visitors that are staying on the property right now. These kids are amazing with their singing, dancing and scripture memory. Even the youngest children could share numerous Bible verses. These children were such a blessing to us today! It was a beautiful day!
