Albania: The Adventures of Petros Pt. 1

And we're off!

The first adventure: Getting There

       .......................

Thursday, July 14th, Petros anxiously awaited the Albania trip to begin.

He has been so excited to get together with everyone on the team again. He's particularly been missing his buddy Wes (though he may be biased due to all the treats Wes gives him).

There has been a lot of preparation leading up to this day - team meetings, class planning, packing, dedicated prayer/fasting, and so much more. How can you not get excited when you've already put so much time/effort into something God has planned out for you?

       .......................

The bags were packed...

Can't forget the water bottle. Don't want to get dehydrated.

Once the team was able to meet up at JFBC, everyone gathered with various staff members who came to meet us and pray for us. What a great way to start a trip that's focused on sharing the gospel and bringing glory to God. Though people may have been anxious for one thing or another, prayer always seems to bring you back to a place of peace and calm.

Safety first as we drive to the airport.

Checking in is definitely a process, especially on international flights. Being organized/prepared makes all the difference. Staying flexible doesn't hurt either.

Once everyone was checked in, and we confirmed the bags were set to travel all the way to Albania, the "best" part of air travel began - SECURITY.

Petros was a little nervous since it was his first time going through security. It helped when he started thinking of the ride through the machine like a roller coaster. Much more exciting.

Hello airport lounge in Rome. You may not have been as breathtaking as the Colosseum, but you had comfy chairs, food, and great coffee!! (And we needed it!)

       .......................

While in Rome, we had to pick up our next set of boarding passes. It took some time, but we had 9+ hours to spare, so we weren't in a rush.

After various naps, cappuccino consumptions, and restroom breaks, were finally off to Tirana, Albania!

       .......................

We were met at the airport by 3 Albania CRU staff members and a friend who assisted in loading up our luggage and taking us to our hotel for the night. It was almost 2 AM before we were fully settled for the night, but our hosts were so welcoming and friendly. We felt bad that they had to be up so late waiting on us, but they just reiterated how happy they were to do it!

It was a long journey (over 24 hours in transit), but a great beginning to this wonderful adventure!

Stay tuned for the continued adventures of Petros as he takes on Shëngjin and teaching English to college students.
